Wyndham Galveston Hotels Offer Special Holiday Rates This Winter

Galveston, Texas (PRWEB) November 20, 2007 -- Tucked away in the southeast corner of the Lone Star State on a 32 mile-long island surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, the Wyndham Galveston Trio, featuring Hotel Galvez, The Tremont House and Harbor House hotel, invites guests enjoy a winter wonderland by the Gulf with special holiday rates.

Winter rates start at $99 at Hotel Galvez in December and $119 in January and February. The Tremont House and Harbor House offer rates from $95 in December, with rates starting at $115 and $105 in January and February, respectively.

Galveston visitors can enjoy a number of Galveston Island?s holiday events including Dickens on The Strand, an annual tradition that transforms the National Downtown Historic District into Victorian London, inspired by the works of Charles Dickens. In its 35th year, the weekend-long festival kicks off Dec. 1 with Queen Victoria?s Knighting Ceremony. The festivities continue with parades, period costumes, food and live entertainment, even a book signing by Henry Dickens Hawsley, a great- great- grandson of the legendary author.

The East End Historic District hosts the Christmas Homes Tour on Dec. 7. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the more than 125 Victorian and Greek Revival homes of the East End have withstood the test of time and open their doors to guests at the holidays. Horse-drawn carriages deliver visitors from one decorated private historical home to another.

At the 1894 Grand Opera House, comedians Joe Sears and Jaston Williams star in ?A Tuna Christmas,? playing the roles of all 24 residents in the imaginary town of Tuna, Texas. Visitors can enjoy one of 15 performances this season, playing Nov. 28 - Dec. 2 and again Dec. 11-16.

The largest Mardi Gras celebration in Texas is found in the streets of the National Downtown Historic District. More than 250,000 people are expected to participate in the 12 days and 11 nights of live music, parades, street performers, masked galas and costumes taking place Jan. 25 - Feb. 5. Mardi Gras has been observed on Galveston Island since as early as 1867 and celebrates 24 years since its revival by Galveston-preservationist George Mitchell in 1985.

Hotel Galvez features 13,000 square feet of function space; a tropical pool with swim-up bar; Bernardo?s restaurant, offering Sunday Champagne Brunch; and opening soon, a 9,500 square foot spa and fitness center. The Tremont House provides 17,000 square feet of function space, including the 8,000 square foot, recently renovated Davidson Ballroom; a rooftop terrace; daily afternoon high tea; The Merchant Prince restaurant; and Toujouse Lobby Bar. The Harbor House features an inn-style design, with complimentary Continental breakfast daily; signing privileges at both Hotel Galvez and The Tremont House; 1,000 square feet of function space under renovation; and the Olympia Grill restaurant scheduled to open mid-2008.
